Summary

Our successful Belfast Water team have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Civil Engineer with strong analytical skills and experience in delivery of civil infrastructure projects.

As a Senior Engineer, you will be supported and encouraged to maintain your CPD and embrace initiatives to help you further develop your own skills and career. You will work alongside our project managers and lead design engineers throughout the project design and delivery cycle, supporting various design stages of civil infrastructure, water and wastewater utility projects to include carrying out feasibility studies, reference designs, detailed designs and preparation of reports and technical specifications. The successful candidate will work as a senior civil engineer in a team with other disciplines such as structural engineers, geotechnical engineers, process engineers, mechanical and electrical engineers and environmentalists.

Role Duties:

  • Production of Outline/detailed civil infrastructure designs,
  • Production of Technical notes and reports,
  • High level and detailed calculations,
  • Overseeing the production of Autocad drawings,
  • Feasibility studies,
  • Ensuring CDM compliance throughout design and construction,
  • Production of Contract documentation,
  • Guiding and mentoring graduate engineers and apprentices within the team.

Examples of upcoming projects:

  • Irish Water – wastewater pumping stations and wastewater networks in south of Ireland (done remotely).
  • Northern Ireland Water – new wastewater treatment works.
  • Limavady wastewater upgrades.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Post graduate experience in design and management of civil infrastructure and/or non-infrastructure schemes.
  • Ability to take on elements of design or report and work on your own initiative.
  • Experience in compiling feasibility studies on civil infrastructure projects.
  • Experience in developing and promoting Safety in Design practices throughout designs.
  • Knowledge and experience in the Northern Ireland Water and Irish Water’s technical standards.
  • Experience in the development of contract preparation and administration using NEC and/or FIDIC forms of contract.
  • Experience in technical checking and reviewing drawings and calculations.
  • Understanding and working experience of wastewater discharge legislations.
  • Experience in developing capital and operational costs for wastewater and/or water infrastructure and/or non-infrastructure schemes.
  • AutoCAD experience and proficiency.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Degree in Civil Engineering
  • MEng degree in Civil Engineering.
  • Understanding and working experience of wastewater infrastructure and non-infrastructure design standards and specifications.
  • Experience in mentoring and guiding junior staff.
  • Working towards chartership.
