RESIDENTIAL SUPPORT WORKER  

 

Therapeutic Children’s Support Worker 

Location: Burton-on-Trent, Staffordshire (DE13)

Salary: £29,500 – £32,000 per year (dependent on experience)

Contract Type: Full-time, Permanent

We are a therapeutic residential care organisation dedicated to providing safe, nurturing homes where children and young people can heal, grow, and achieve their potential. With two Ofsted-rated “Good” homes and a third opening soon, we are expanding our team in the Burton-on-Trent area.

The Role 

As a Therapeutic Children’s Support Worker, you will play an essential part in helping children with complex emotional and behavioural needs develop resilience, emotional regulation, and vital life skills. You will use therapeutic methods, including the PACE model (Playfulness, Acceptance, Curiosity, Empathy), to provide consistent, compassionate support that encourages healing and growth.

 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Provide consistent, high-quality care within a therapeutic residential setting
  • Use trauma-informed approaches to support children’s emotional wellbeing and recovery
  • Help children build confidence, resilience, and positive coping strategies
  • Contribute to the development and delivery of individualised care plans
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues and external professionals to maintain a safe, nurturing environment
  • Promote empathy, consistency, and positive role modelling

 

About You 

  • Minimum of 1 year’s experience in residential childcare (preferred)
  • Knowledge of therapeutic or trauma-informed practice (PACE experience advantageous)
  • Compassionate, patient, and emotionally resilient
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Flexible and able to work shifts, including evenings and weekends
  • Committed to ongoing professional development
