Principle Geotechnical Engineer Team Leader
Location – Coventry
Salary £55,000 – £65,000/annum Dependant on experience
An exciting opportunity for a Principal Engineer Team Lead to lead and manage the engineering team for a leading Ground investigation contractor.
This role demands demonstrable technical, managerial and sales skills to nurture and lead a team of Engineers and Principal Engineers to win work and deliver high standards.
Role
- Reporting to and liaising with the Managing Director
- Aid with the mentoring, coaching, technical training and development of more junior staff
- Aid with the monitoring and appraisal of the performance of personnel.
- Identify technical developments, training and research
- Leading by example to achieve goals and championing quality.
- Preparing and checking technical reports such as Desk Study Reports, GIRs and Interpretive Reports.
- Participating in the resolution of project technical issues.
- Collaborating with other engineers to ensure the integrity of the delivery.
- Enhancing team’s reputation by delivering high quality work on time and budget.
- Commercial input to projects (contract, invoicing, debt management, client management etc) relating to projects for which you have responsibility.
- Building and maintaining relationships with clients on projects.
- Preparing and checking drawings, specifications, reports and other project deliverables as required in line with company and client requirements as well as national standards and codes of practice.
- Ensure that the Company’s policies are implemented successfully
- Comply with the Company SHEQ, ISO14001, ISO9001 and ISO45001 quality systems and promote a culture of awareness within the team.
- Performing other duties and responsibilities as required from time to time by your line manager.

- Well-rounded ground investigation/geotechnical design experience gained from working in either a consultancy or contracting background.
- Proven experience acting in a senior / principal engineer role with experience managing teams of people.
- Post-graduate experience in most aspects of projects, including planning and commercial, together with examples of applying standards and technical knowledge in projects.
- Good motivational, communication and people management skills with an ability to influence staff and clients.
- Experience and understanding of the needs and approaches to ground investigation specialism markets, including relationships with clients, work planning and commercial management.
- Experience managing commercial aspects of projects.
- Excellent report writing skills with the ability to self-check and produce accurate deliverables.
- Team player, self-starter and problem solver with a mature approach and ability to work as part of a larger operations team.
- Flexible to travel for short assignments.
- Familiar with Office 365, MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, etc.
