PARALEGAL 

About The Role 

This hybrid role combines responsibilities across risk management, regulatory compliance, legal support, and complaints/claims handling. The paralegal plays a key role in maintaining the firm’s regulatory obligations, supporting internal governance, and ensuring operational excellence across legal and compliance functions.

Day to day, you’ll be successful in this role by:

• Maintain and update lender panel memberships, including processing applications and communicating changes to fee earners.
• Monitor and triage the central Risk inbox, allocating or responding to compliance and risk queries.
• Compile and maintain central registers, such as gifts and hospitality.
• Review and process new joiner disclosures forms, escalating risks, or conflicts when necessary.
• Support automation, AI integration, and IT business engagement initiatives within the Risk team.
• Conduct Risk system testing and support internal systems updates such as the Intranet.
• Draft, review, and update firm policies, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and consistency.
• Review and update annual external statements such as the Modern Slavery, Pricing Transparency and Financial Crime Statements.
• Liaise with fee earner teams to update engagement letters, global appointment letters, and general terms of business.
• Collaborate with external consultants and other stakeholders to ensure clarity and accessibility of legal documents.
• Collate and draft the monthly firm-wide risk and compliance update for firm wide publication.
• Support internal audits and regulatory inspections, such as Lexcel and the SRA.
• Conduct legal research and prepare innovative and valuable insights on compliance and regulatory issues.

Assist with complaints and claims management including:

• Opening and closing files and drafting claim notification forms
• File maintenance, such as drafting acknowledgements, updating key dates, tracking responses, and sending closing letters.
• Collating complaints and claims data for Lexcel, CQS, insurers, tenders, client audits and others.
• Investigating and responding to simple complaints and claims under supervision.
• Assisting with formal investigations, including chronology preparation, and preparing bundles.
• Drafting acknowledgements for Letters of Claim (LOC) and preliminary LOCs.
• Handling SDLT claims and raising claim-related payments.

The role is right for you if: 

Previous experience of working within a legal environment would be of benefit, but is not essential for this role. This role will suit you if you would like to prioritise your own workload, work to tight deadlines to produce work of a high standard, and can work with minimum supervision.

You will need to demonstrate from experience that you are exceptionally organised and proactive, that you have a flexible ‘can-do’ attitude, and that you have the skills to work closely with various stakeholders and have direct contact with the firm’s housebuilder and social housing clients.

We expect you to be someone who takes pride in your work and in providing a first class support service to your colleagues, anticipating their needs in advance wherever possible, and paying meticulous attention to detail in all of your work.

You will have excellent spelling and grammar skills. You will be proficient with the usual Microsoft packages, including Excel and be comfortable with learning new databases and other software packages.

You should be able to demonstrate a solid level of academic achievement, with a minimum of 6 GCSE passes at grade C or above (or equivalent), including English and Maths.

Finally, we are looking for someone who can demonstrate initiative and problem-solving skills and a willingness to learn and develop, which will help you thrive in this role.
