Financial Controller

FINANCIAL CONTROLLER 

Join Navantia UK – a leading name in naval shipbuilding and marine engineering – as we continue to strengthen our operations across the UK. We’re looking for a Financial Controller to take ownership of our financial performance at our Appledore site and play a key role in supporting the business through its next phase of growth.

The Role 

As Financial Controller, you’ll manage all aspects of the site’s financial operations — from reporting and forecasting to risk management and compliance. You’ll be the financial heartbeat of the site, providing strategic insights that help senior leadership make informed, forward-thinking decisions.

This is a hands-on role suited to someone who thrives in a dynamic manufacturing or shipbuilding environment and enjoys shaping systems, processes, and people to deliver best-in-class financial control.

What You’ll Do 

• Lead day-to-day financial operations, ensuring accurate reporting, cash flow management, forecasting and budgeting.
• Provide strategic financial insights to senior leadership to drive growth, efficiency, and profitability.
• Manage monthly management accounts, Board reports and reconciliations.
• Oversee site cash flow and capital planning, working closely with Group Treasury.
• Ensure full compliance with accounting standards, tax regulations and internal controls.
• Drive improvements across systems and financial processes (ERP – ideally SAP).
• Lead and develop a small on-site finance team, fostering collaboration and professional growth.

About You 

You’re a confident financial leader with strong analytical and communication skills, capable of translating complex data into clear business insight. You’re proactive, detail-oriented, and enjoy solving problems in a fast-moving operational setting.

You’ll bring: 

• ACA, ACCA, or CIMA qualification (or equivalent).
• 4+ years’ post-qualification experience, ideally in shipbuilding, construction or manufacturing.
• Proven management experience and hands-on control of financial operations.
• Advanced Excel and financial modelling skills; PowerPoint for presenting insights.
• Strong knowledge of ERP systems (SAP experience an advantage).
