ASSISTANT QUANTITY SURVEYOR (PRE-CONSTRUCTION) 

 

Cairn Cross is looking for an ambitious Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join our growing pre-construction team and begin or further their career in the civil engineering industry. You will join an enthusiastic and driven team supporting your career development.

Cairn Cross is a multi-disciplined design and build specialist main contractor for rail depots and bespoke projects. We work across various sectors, offering complete civil engineering projects nationwide.

With over 30 years of experience, we employ over fifty staff, delivering significant infrastructure across the UK through our complete in-house specialists, where safety is paramount.

Duties: 

• Support the pre-construction team.
• Support with setting up project folders and maintaining document control.
• Carry out data entry, update registers, and keep records of meetings.
• Assist in preparing tender documents, pricing, and scope of works.
• Help obtain quotations, analyse subcontractor pricing, and update tender submissions.
• Contribute to programme preparation, material take-offs, and standard tender requirements.
• Provide support during site visits, client meetings, and project handovers.
• Maintain libraries and databases, including estimating rates.
• Assist in reviewing contracts, managing enquiries, and supporting supply chain relationships.
• Take part in lessons-learned reviews and continuous improvement initiatives.

 

The Person: 

• Ideally, you’ll already hold a Quantity Surveyor degree and be eager to advance your career.
• Have a minimum of 2 years construction experience
• Computer literate and proficient in the Microsoft Office suite
• Must be a hardworking individual who is willing to learn
• Must have effective written and verbal communication
• Some industry experience is beneficial but not essential
• High attention to detail with good organisational skills
• Able to manage time effectively and work to deadlines
• Comfortable communicating effectively in person and over the phone.

 

The Specifics: 

• Location: Morley, Leeds and hybrid of home working where applicable
• Hours: 08:00am – 17:00pm
• Contract: Full-time/Permanent
• Salary: £30,000 – £35,000. Negotiable depending on experience
