Evolve Dynamics is an engineering company specialising in UAV systems – aircraft, payloads and software, based in the United Kingdom. We provide best in class mission specific surveillance and special purpose aircraft of different types and sizes, as well as camera modules and other payloads, for public sector services, private security and defence. Our customers include UK police, fire fighters, Ministry of Defence as well as other NATO police forces and defence organisations. We also heavily support Ukraine, where we have many users. Innovation and perfection is in our DNA and we are one of the leading UAS companies in the world. We have been going since 2016 and have over 40 staff globally. We cover multiple engineering disciplines from mechanical, aerodynamics, electronics, radio, software, including AI.
Role Overview
We are looking for highly motivated individuals who can think creatively, independently identify areas for improvement, tackle potential barriers to progress and propose solutions. The successful candidate will be responsible, thorough and accountable with a sharp eye for detail.
The Mechanical Design Engineer will be responsible for designing, developing, and testing mechanical systems and components across our entire range of Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) products. This role involves creating detailed designs, validating design performance, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure that systems meet performance, environmental, and quality requirements. The ideal candidate will have strong problem-solving skills, a solid understanding of mechanical engineering principles, and the ability to work in a fast-paced, innovative environment.
Role & Responsibilities:
- Design and Development: Design mechanical systems for ground and airside systems. Ensure designs meet structural, performance and aerodynamic specifications while optimizing for weight, durability, and manufacturability.
- Project management: Ability to work across multiple projects simultaneously and to schedule work packages based on company priorities. A certain level of agility is required to keep up with fast deliverables coupled with enough documentation discipline to provide visibility on all ongoing progress.
- Prototyping & Testing: Build prototypes and conduct testing to verify design concepts, validate performance, and ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards. Analyze test results and refine designs based on findings.
- Collaboration: Work closely with electronic, software, and production teams to ensure integrated product designs that meet project objectives and timelines. Participate in design reviews, brainstorming sessions, and cross-departmental meetings.
- Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for design optimization and cost reduction or changes in the development process to help team efficiency.
- Compliance & Standards: Ensure designs adhere to industry standards and deliver on environmental performance expectations.
Skills and experience (with demonstrable examples)
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or related field.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in mechanical design engineering, preferably in the aerospace industry. Experience with design for manufacturability and assembly (DFM/DFA) is highly desirable.
- Proficiency in SolidWorks CAD software.
- Familiarity with rapid prototyping, 3D printing, and other advanced manufacturing technologies.
- Knowledge of materials science, particularly lightweight and high-strength materials like composites, aluminum alloys, and carbon fiber.
- Understanding of UAV flight dynamics, control systems and design principles is a plus.
